BOSTON, Mass. – Sam Boyle led four Emerson players in double figures with 17 points as the Lions beat Coast Guard 70-66 in overtime in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Emerson improves to 13-8 overall and 7-5 in the conference while the Bears drop to 5-15 overall and 4-8 in the NEWMAC.
Micaela Martinelli registered her third double-double of the season as she had game highs of 19 points and 13 rebounds in the set back.
Emerson led 44-36 with 9:02 left in regulation and the Bears would pull even 51-51 on a layup by Breanna Wood with 3:25 left.
The Bears took their first lead of the game 55-53 with 59 seconds left in regulation on a bucket by Breanna Farrington before the Lions pulled even on a free throw with 22 seconds left.
Coast Guard missed a 3-pointer with four seconds left to send the game overtime.
Hartman hit a trey with 1:44 left in OT to tie the game 62-62 before the Lions made four straight free throws taking a 66-62 lead with 24 seconds left.
Later, another Hartman hoop cut the lead to 68-66 with seven seconds left, but Rachel Davey made two free throws to close the scoring.
Coast Guard shot 35.4 percent from the field (23-65) and made 8 of 19 from 3-point range while Emerson shot 44.4 percent (24-54) and made just 3 of 17 from behind the arc. The Bears held a 45-32 edge in rebounding.
Emerson jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the first three minutes and led 19-10 after one and 25-21 at the break.
The Bears are back in action when they host archrival Merchant Marine on Monday night at 6:00.
