Bears V8 Place 5th at N.E. Championships

WORCESTER, MASS.--(5/5/12)--The Coast Guard Academy Varsity 8, ranked fifth nationally, placed fifth, fourth among Division III teams at the New England Championship.

The Bears began the day by placing second in their heat with a time of 6:47.74 behind NEWMAC champion Wellesley (6:45.88). The Bears time was good enough to earn a spot in the Grand Final.

Coast Guard placed fifth in the Grand Final with a time of 7:04.30. Williams won the Grand Final with a time of 6:45.31, Bates was second in 6:55.28. Division I Holy Cross took third (7:02.01) while Wellesley was fourth in 7:03.24.

The Bears solid performance keeps their shot at the Varsity 8 earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships at Lake Mercer, N.J. on May 25th and 26th.
