Bears Place 8 on Scholar Athlete team

NEW LONDON, Conn.--The Coast Guard Academy women's crew team placed eight cadet-athletes on the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Scholar Athlete team.

Three seniors were named to the team as CRCA senior All-American's Holly Madden (Civil Engineering) and Sarah Jane Otey (Marine and Environmental Science) and classmate Erin Nolan (Mechanical Engineering) earned a spot on the team.

Junior Jess Ward (Mechanical Engineering) and sophomores Catherine Durand (Marine and Environmental Sciences), Judy Hooymans (Electrical Engineering), Stephanie Jocis (Marine and Environmental Science) and Alyssa Turner (Marine and Environmental Science) rounded out the honorees from Coast Guard.

To earn a spot on the CRCA Scholar Athlete team the student-athlete must have a 3.5 GPA or higher, be in at least her second year of eligibility and rowed in a minimum of 75 percent of the current spring races or racing in a regional conference event.
