STORRS, Conn.-The Coast Guard women's rowing team ran up against a tough pair of teams today at the UConn Invitational as they placed third out of the three teams competing. The team used the day to hone their racing skills against a Division I school in the University of Connecticut and against rival Trinity College, ranked number one in Division III.
In the race Trinity gained an early lead with Coast Guard and UConn locked in a tight battle for through the 1000 meter mark before the Huskies were able to open a slight lead on the Bears.
Coast Guard continued to fight down the stretch for a competitive finish against UConn.
Coach Jen Meuse, happy with the effort, states, "I was pleased with the women today. We were able to pull a few key skills together in this race, and overall, raced stronger and smarter than we did last week," adding "that was no easy task given the speed of our competition! Heading into UMass, we will be working to develop greater boat unity."
