HARTFORD, Conn. -- The women had a good showing at the first regatta of the season, the Riverfront Regatta, placing sixth in the Varsity 8+ event and first in the Novice 4+.

"I am very pleased with how well both boats rowed. The athletes have done an excellent job over the past three weeks of really honing their technical skills.," said Coast Guard head coach Jodi Hope. "What we learned today is we are ready now to race a little more risky. We will be tapping into that higher end threshold this week as we look ahead to the Head of the Housatonic on October 11."

The Novice 4+ had a terrific race. They rowed long and composed and they held off Sacred Heart for the duration of the course, finishing more than 7 seconds ahead.  This was a great foundational race for the novice squad, and sets a strong precedent for the remainder of the season.
