BOSTON, Mass. -- The Bears 4 placed sixth of 35 crews at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta.
The women placed 6th out of 35 crews in the Women's Collegiate Fours event at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta with a time of 21:28.873
This was a solid race and great finish for the Bears. The conditions were not favorable, with high winds from variable directions throughout the winding course and white caps in the basin to start the race, but Coast Guard maintained composure and battled the adversity with poise.
This course is known for its challenges for coxswains to steer, and the difficult conditions and other crews added to that challenge, but CGA coxswain Victoria Castleberry held a strong line throughout the race and positioned her crew to take the fastest route while undertaking other crews ahead.
Failure to yield from those crews despite calls from Castleberry caused brief clashing of oars and an interruption in speed, but the crew recovered quickly and continued to power confidently down the course.
The women earned an automatic qualification in this event for next year, securing a spot for Coast Guard at the 53rd Head of the Charles Regatta.
The Bears Lineup:
4 - Marissa Marsh
3 - Alyssa Laystrom
2 - Makenzy Karnehm
