The women had a very solid performance at the New England Championship Regatta, earning a spot in the Varsity 8 Petite Final and improving 10 seconds on the field since last week on the same course.

In the morning heat, Coast Guard beat out the higher-seeded crew from Vermont with a 2.694 lead across the line to make it to the Petite Final.  In the afternoon, the Bears had a rockier race with less technical finesse, but managed to stay in contact with the field, finishing only 4.2 seconds behind a team they trailed by 22.7 seconds two weeks ago.  They finished 12th out of 20 overall, which is a great result for a Varsity 8 comprised of 2 very new novices who only began rowing 10 weeks ago, 3 other novice/4c's, 2 juniors and 2 seniors.

The line-up this week was:
c - junior Victoria Castleberry
8 - freshman Marissa Marsh
7 - freshman Kate Ashbey
6 - junior Alyssa Laystrom
5 - freshman Elaine Weaver
4 - senior Laura Beck
3 - sophomore Bruna Pavan
2 - Jordan Solseth
1 - senior Megan Sackett

The Bears compete Saturday, May 12th at the ECAC Championship.
