Title: Assistant Coach

Jodi Hope is in her first season as an assistant coach with the Bears.  Hope brings to the Coast Guard Academy six years of collegiate coaching experience, having most recently served as an assistant coach at Division III-rival William Smith College from 2009-2012 and previously at her alma mater, the University of Connecticut, from 2005-2008.

During Hope’s time at William Smith, the Herons made three consecutive appearances at the NCAA Championships, earning third-place medals in the Varsity 8 event and capturing the fourth place overall team trophy in 2012.  The Herons earned back-to-back Liberty League Championship titles in 2011-2012 and the New York State Championship title in 2012, highlighting podium finishes in the first and second varsity eights, the novice eight, and the novice four.  The William Smith squad was honored by the Liberty League Conference with the Crew of the Year and Coaching Staff of the Year awards in 2011 and 2012, as well as the Liberty League Novice Crew of the Year award in 2010, 2011, and 2012.

At UConn, Hope was on staff for two years as a Graduate Assistant Coach while earning a Master of Arts degree in Education, followed by one year as an Assistant Coach.  In 2006, Hope worked primarily with the squad’s fours, leading the second varsity four to silver medals at the Big East Championship.  The following year, Hope coached the novice 8 to bronze medals at the Big East and Dad Vail Regatta Championships.

A walk-on novice rower to the University of Connecticut team, Hope competed for four years on the varsity squad, capping her career with gold medals at the Dad Vail Regatta Championship in 2004 in the 2nd Varsity 8 event and in 2005 as a member of the 1st Varsity 8.  Hope served as a co-captain of the UConn team in 2004-2005 and was honored by her teammates with the Husky Award for demonstrating the skills of leadership, friendship, and dedication.  Two years earlier, in 2003, Hope was recognized by her teammates and coaches with the Drive Award for hardest-working over the winter training season.  Hope was a four-time Big East Scholar-Athlete and a CRCA (Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association) Scholar-Athlete in 2005.
