Bears Fall to Beavers in NEWMAC Semi-Finals

BABSON PARK, Mass. – In the team's first trip to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) semi-final, Coast Guard fell to Babson 17-1 Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Bears finish up the season 12-7 while the Beavers improve to 17-3 and move on to their 11thconference final in the last 12 years.

Freshman Luisa Santos was the lone scorer for the Coast Guard, scoring and unassisted goal in the first half.

Babson was led by Lexi Lanaghan who had a game high six points with four goals and two assists. Julia Harrigan also had four goals of her own.

Santos scored the Bears lone goal with 9:10 remaining in the opening half making the score 8-1, but Coast Guard could not build any momentum falling in their first trip to the conference tournament.

Freshman Mary Budri (4-5) started in goal making two saves and allowing seven goals. Classmate Rebecca Dolan entered in the second half, making 10 saves and allowing 12 goals.

Cricket Fligor (7-4) made two saves and allowed one goal.

Coast Guard wraps up a memorable year were the Bears won a program record 12 games, earned their first NEWMAC win and made the conference tournament for the first time in the Bears four years as a varsity program. Coast Guard returns 19 of 20 players next season looking to build on this year's success.
