Giorgio Remains Alive and Adds Another All-American Honor at NCAA's
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Junior All-American Nate Giorgio is once again an All-American as he won a pair of matches at 133 pounds in the consolation bracket to advance to the second day of the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships. The top eight in each weight class earn All-America status and eight wrestlers remain at each weight heading into the second day of wrestling action.
Giorgio wrestling at the NCAA Championships for the third straight season, lost his first match to Myzar Mendoza, the 8th seed, from Wilkes 10-1 to get dropped into the consolation bracket.
He beat Phillip Opelt from Cornell College by tech. fall 16-0 in his first consolation match before recording a 10-8 decision over Dustin Weinmann from Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Giorgio will wrestle Jimmy Nehls from Wisconsin-Whitewater on Saturday. He would need back-to-back wins to earn a spot in the third place match.
He placed fourth nationally at 125 pounds to earn All-America honors as a freshman before winning one of three matches last season at the NCAA's.
