CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Junior All-American Nate Giorgio finished eighth to earn All-America status for the second time in his career at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championship.
He placed fourth nationally at 125 pounds to earn All-America honors as a freshman before winning one of three matches last season at the NCAA's.
On Saturday, Giorgio, who was unseeded at 133 pounds, lost 5-1 to Jimmy Nehls from Wisconsin-Whitewater, the sixth-seed, to drop into the seventh place match where he lost to Silas Murray from Rhode Island College 8-2 to finish eighth.
On Friday during the first day of the championship, he lost his first match to Myzar Mendoza, the 8th seed, from Wilkes 10-1 to get dropped into the consolation bracket.
He beat Phillip Opelt from Cornell College by tech. fall 16-0 in his first consolation match before recording a 10-8 decision over Dustin Weinmann from Wisconsin-La Crosse to secure All-America status being one of just eight wrestlers at 133 pounds to advance to the second day of competition.
