SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Chris Sullivan was the top Coast Guard finisher as he placed fourth and three Coast Guard wrestlers earned All-region honors at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional at Springfield College.
Marc Wagner placed fifth at 184 pounds while Dan Fiorvanti took sixth at 174 pounds earning All-Northeast honors with a top six finish.
Sullivan, the second seed, lost in the semifinals, 6-3 to second-seeded Jorge Lopez from Williams to begin the second day of competition.
He then won a 10-4 decision over eighth-seeded Eamonn Gaffney from Ithaca in the consolation semifinal to earn a spot in the third place match.
In the third place match, he lost a 8-4 decision against fourth-seeded Ty Herzog from Roger Williams.
Wagner, seeded fifth at 184 won a 5-4 decision over 8th seeded Dan Wensley from WPI before losing to #3 Joe Albina from Roger Williams 8-5.
In the fifth place match he won a 4-3 decision against sixth-seeded Dae'Sean Brown from Johnson & Wales to place fifth.
Fiorvanti, the eighth seed at 174, won an 8-1 decision over #5 Shaun Gillen from Oneonta State in the first match of the day to secure All-region honors. He then lost to #2 Dan Ressier from Roger Williams 7-4 in the consolation semifinals.
In the fifth place match he dropped a 12-8 decision Jaison White, the #7 seed from Ithaca to finish sixth.
Mike Palomba, ranked sixth at 165, was pinned by #2 Colin Barber in his first consolation match of the day while Phil Azzari, ranked seventh at 197, lost a 4-2 sudden victory to #6 Anthony Brooks from Williams.
The Bears placed ninth of 18 teams.
