New London, Conn.-- Coast Guard wrestling freshman Paul Detwiler has been named the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) wrestler and rookie of the week.
Detwiler, who is ranked #6 in the nation, was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the NEWA Duals Championships this past weekend. He won all three matches and he earned a spot on the All-tournament team.
Detwiler defeated John Boyle of Western New England, who is ranked #2 in the nation. He then went on to beat Khamri Thomas of Johnson and Wales, who is ranked #3 in the nation.
Following his performance this weekend, Detwiler has been ranked #1 in the NEWA Individual rankings for the 184 weight class.
The Bears are #2 in the NEWA team rankings and have moved up in the national rankings to #20.
Coast Guard is back in action this Saturday when they travel to Norwich for the All-Academy Championships.
