Bears Honored by NSCAA
NEW LONDON, Conn.--(1/5/12)--The Coast Guard Academy women's soccer team has won the 2011 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Ethics/Sportsmanship Gold Award.
The Bears were one of just 13 other Division III schools nationally to win the award.
The NSCAA gives out Gold, Silver and Bronze Ethics/Sportsmanship Awards in all Divisions to teams that did not receive any red cards all year and the number of yellow cards determines the award given.
Coast Guard earned the Gold Award by not receiving any yellow during the entire season. Silver Awards are given to team that had between one and five yellow cards while a Bronze Award is for teams with between six and ten yellow cards.
Head coach Susan Grant will be presented the award at the NSCAA Convention in Kansas City next week.
Grant and the Bears also won the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Soccer Sportsmanship Award for the third straight season this year.
