Mundy's First Career Goal Leads Bears to Win

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/6/11)--Freshman Julia Mundy scored the first goal of her career in the 83rd minute while classmate Holly Moore assisted on both Coast Guard goals leading the Bears to a 2-1 win over Johnson & Wales in a non-conference game played in a constant rainfall from start to finish.

Coast Guard picked up its first win of the season and evened its record at 1-1 while the Wildcats dropped their third straight one goal game to start the season, dropping to 0-3. It was the Bears first win over Johnson & Wales in four all-time meetings.

Senior Shannah Shelton got the Bears on the board in the eighth minute with a blast into the upper left corner with Moore earning her first career assist on the goal.

Johnson and Wales had a couple great chances in both the 11th and 12th minute on shots by senior Amanda Aguiar, but Coast Guard senior Mary Mills stopped her twice.

The Wildcats did tie match in the 32nd minute on a goal by senior Berkeley Cecchini-Bond with Aguiar assisting.

Coast Guard freshman Lindsay Duplessis had a great opportunity to put the Bears ahead in the 41st minute, but her shot sailed wide left.

The game-winning goal came on a cross from sophomore Jill Kelly to Moore who touched it to Mundy, who then buried the ball in the left side of the net.

Mills made five saves to register the win while Johnson & Wales sophomore Kara Collins made just one save in taking the loss.

Coast Guard outshot Johnson & Wales 9-8.
