Bears Run Win Streak to Three; Blank Mitchell

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/14/11)--Three different players scored as host Coast Guard won its third straight game for the first time in eight years with a 3-0 win over Mitchell in a non-conference game between the crosstown rivals.

The Bears improve to 3-1 while Mitchell drops to 1-1 on the young season. The 3-1 record is the second best start in school history. Coast Guard started 4-1 in 2000, the first year of the women's soccer program.

Coast Guard scored the only goal of the first half in the 30th minute when freshman Holly Moore scored her first career goal. The ball ricocheted off of Moore and past Mitchell goal keeper Kaylee Woodford.

Senior Shannah Shelton blasted a shot from outside the 18 just under the cross bar in the 50th minute with classmate Brittany Fifer assisting to make the score 2-0.

Freshman Elyse Bobczynski closed the scoring with a goal from the top of the 18 in the 62nd minute.

Senior Mary Mills did not need to make a save to record her second consecutive shutout of the season for the Bears while Woodford had five saves for the Mariners.
