NEW LONDON, Conn.—Connecticut College scored a pair of first half goals as the Camels won their first game of the season beating rival Coast Guard 2-1 in a non-conference game.
The Camels improve to 1-4-1 on the season while Coast Guard dropped its third straight to dip to 1-6 on the season.
Coast Guard had an opportunity early when sophomore Lindsay Duplessis fired a shot off the crossbar in the third minute of play.
The Camels opened the scoring when sophomore Grace Bilodeau fired a shot at Coast Guard goalkeeper junior Devin Fellman, who made the save, but less than a minute later Bilodeau buried a goal in the upper right corner for the 1-0 lead in the tenth minute.
Conn. College extended the lead to 2-0 late in first half, in the 39th minute, on a goal by freshman Lily Cannon as Fellman came out of the box and Cannon buried a shot in the upper right corner to extend the lead to 2-0.
Coast Guard got on the board early in the second half on a header by sophomore Liz Runci, the first goal of her career, with sophomore Holly Moore adding her first assist of the season for the Bears just 2:05 into the second half.
The Bears had an opportunity to tie the game in the 72nd minute, but senior Kelsey Freeman's shot from inside the six-yard box was blocked by freshman Vivian Vigliotti, who was on the post.
Sophomore Natalie Signor (1-2) made two saves in the first half to register her first win of the season in net for the Camels while senior Kristen Manville did not need to register a save in the second half for Conn. College.
Fellman recorded five saves for the Bears and Conn. College outshot Coast Guard 15-6.
Coast Guard will play its next three games on the road beginning Saturday with a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game at Clark beginning at 2 p.m.
