ST. MARY'S CITY, Md.--A pair of freshman scored in their collegiate debut leading Coast Guard to a 2-0 win over Randolph-Macon in the opening round of the Seahawk Invitational at St. Mary's College.
The Bears will take on host St. Mary's at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the championship game.
Coast Guard won its season opener for the first time since 2008 when the Bears beat Mitchell 6-0 at home. It was CGA's first season opening away from home since a 1-0 win over Colby Sawyer in 2005.
Senior Devin Fellman needed to make just two saves as she registered her third career shutout as the Bears outshot the Yellowjackets 19-5 in the win.
After a scoreless first half, freshman Terry Netusil's unassisted goal in the 51st minute gave Coast Guard a 1-0 lead.
Freshman Emily Matthews gave the Bears an insurance goal in the 72nd minute with classmate Katie Clark adding the assist.
