NEW LONDON, Conn. - Senior Lindsey Duplessis's penalty kick in the 73rd minute pushed the Coast Guard to a 1-0 win in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference match over Clark.
The Bears held an advantage in shots 16-7 and shots on goal 7-1 but could not crack the Cougars defense until Duplessis's stepped up to take a penalty kick at the 72:55 mark. She calmly slotted her shot past Clark junior goalkeeper Gabby Paolini for her second goal of the season.
Coach Susan Grant was happy with the win but always looking for improvement saying, "I am pleased to get the win tonight but we have some kinks we need to work through as we move forward. We made a few adjustments going into the second half that resulted in more offensive opportunities."
Senior Holly Moore made one save for the win tonight and her fifth shutout of the year moving the Bear's record to 5-3-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the NEWMAC conference. It was a career night for Moore as this shutout tied her for first with Mary Mills (2011) and Joan Pavlish (2003) in single season shutouts. This is also her eighth career shutout that has her in third in the Coast Guard women's record book behind Pavlish (14) and Mills (10).
"I am thrilled that Holly got the shutout tonight and continues to show her poise in the net," commented in Coach Grant.
Paolini made six saves in the loss. The Cougars record dropped to 0-9-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the NEWMAC Conference
Coast Guard returns to action on Wednesday, October 1st when they host Salve Regina at 7:00 pm.
