FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Coast Guard dropped their first game of the season as Mary Washington topped them 3-0 in the Bears first game at the Mary Washington Classic.

With the loss, Coast Guard falls to 2-1 on the season while the Eagles improve to 3-2. 

Mary Washington tallied their first goal of the game just under fifteen minutes into the opening half as freshman Lauren Brower received a pass from Junior Marfay Jackson and scored for her second goal of the year.

The Eagles would score another right before the half as freshman Christina Carlson found freshman Marisa Madaras for her second goal of the year.

Freshman Mackenzie Kirkham finished off the scoring for Mary Washington as she scored an her first collegiate with 56:07 left on the clock.

"UMW scored early on us and it really pushed us back on our heels for most of the first half, said head coach Susan Grant. "We came out stronger in the second half, but it just was not enough against their athletic squad."

Freshman Rachel Boohar made eight saves on 19 shots, 11 on goal, falling to 2-1 on the season.

Freshman Haley Randall earned her third victory of the year (3-2) as she made two saves on two shots on goal. Junior Sara Armor played the final 27:06 of the game facing zero shots.

"I am pleased with our team for their determined effort today, and I am happy with the quality performance of our subs off the bench," added coach Grant. "Our priority now is to rest and recover in order to be ready for another competitive match up tomorrow against Randolph-Macon."

The Bears return to action tomorrow, September 13th, as they play their final game at the Mary Washington Classic against Randolph-Macon. Kickoff is 12:30.
