NORTON, Mass. - Wheaton scored one goal in each half to top Coast Guard 2-0 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
With the loss the Bears fall to 5-6-4 on the season and 1-4-2 in the conference while the Lyons improve to 11-6 overall and 3-4 in the NEWMAC.
Sophomore Logan Ahearn put the Lyons on the board in the 44th minute with her first goal of the season. The play began with freshman Noelle Perciballi sending Ahearn a pass across the box. Ahearn redirected the ball back across the frame, sending it over the keepers head and into the goal for the 1-0 lead.
Senior Alexa Sanchez doubled Wheaton's lead in the 63rd minute with her second goal of the season. Brooke Collard headed the ball on frame forcing sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Boohar to make a save. Boohar was unable to coral the rebound and it deflected right to Sanchez who put it away.
Boohar (5-6-4) ended the contest with nine saves for Coast Guard, while Leann Wolf (9-5) came up with eight in 74 minutes of work. Freshman Alexa Barbagallo came in for Wolf in the final minutes of the second half and was not forced to make a save.
