SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Coast Guard dropped their New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener to Springfield 5-0 Saturday afternoon on the Springfield College campus.
With the loss, the Bears fall to 3-2 on the season and 0-1 in conference play while the Pride improve to 6-0 on the year and 1-0 in NEWMAC play.
Springfield opened the scoring in the 11th minute on a goal from senior Mikaela Coady assisted by Dakota Kelly for the early 1-0 advantage.
Freshman Sara Swetalnd was the second goal scorer for the Pride as she took a pass from senior Monique Marcelino and fired home her first goal of the season in the 21st minute.
Junior Amanda Wright was the final goal scorer for Springfield in the first half scoring an unassisted goal in the 38th minute for the 3-0 lead.
The Pride added two more goals in the second half to finish off the 5-0 win.
Junior Rachel Boohar (3-2) made nine saves on 14 shots on goal allowing five goals.
Senior Ciara Boucher (6-0) wrapped up her fourth shutout of the season making four saves on four shots on goal.
Coast Guard is back in action on Wednesday, September 20th when they take on cross-town rival Conn. College in the battle for the Whale Cup. Opening kickoff is 4:30.
