SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Freshman Kat Retz scored with 14 seconds left in the second half as the Bears won their second New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) 1-0 over Mount Holyoke Tuesday night.
With the win the Bears improve to 5-5 overall and 2-2 in the conference while the Lyons fall to 2-8-1 on the season and 0-4 in the NEWMAC.
Coast Guard dominated the majority of the game out shooting Mount Holyoke 29-7 and forcing junior goalkeeper Amanda Manaster to make 12 saves.
The game look destined for overtime until freshman Felicia Lombardi found Kat Retz with a pass in the 90th minute. Retz rifled a shot from just outside the box and put it past the diving keeper for her team leading third goal of the season giving the Bears the win.
Junior Rachel Boohar (5-5) made four saves on four shots on goals for her third shutout of the season.
Manaster (2-8-1) made 12 saves on 13 shots on goal allowing the single score late in the game.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Babson Park, Massachusetts for their fifth NEWMAC game of the season against the Babson Beavers. Opening kickoff is 2:00.
