NEW LONDON, Conn. -  Coast Guard set a new school record for wins in a season, as they topped Albertus Magnus 3-0 in their final non-conference game of the season Wednesday evening.

With the win, the Bears are now 9-8 on the year. The nine wins is the most wins in a single season for the program, passing the 2002 and 2014 team. The Falcons fall to 5-8-1 overall.

Freshman Kat Retz scored her fourth goal of the season while sophomore Claire Hurley found the back of the net for the seventh time this season and the sixth time in the last seven games. Senior Michelle Hernandez scored her second goal of the season. Sophomores Valerie Hines and Emily Conner each tallied their first points of the season with an assist each.

The Bears were on the board early in the game as Retz collected a clearance by the Albertus Magnus defense in the center of the field. She dribbled back towards goal and fired a shot on goal from just outside the penalty box. Her strike dipped just over the keeper head and into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.

Coast Guard continued to press the attack and test sophomore goalkeeper Cassidy Scofield through the first half. In the 20th minute freshman Sabrina Robertson found classmate Kylee Ballard on the left side of the Falcons penalty box. Ballard settled the pass and rifled a shot on goal. Scofield dove to her left and made the diving save, holding the shot and ending the Bears attack.

In the 25th minute, Coast Guard scored their second of the game as Hines hit a deep service from the left side of the field to the opposite corner of the Albertus Magnus box. Hurley settled the cross and hit her shot to the opposite post for the 2-0 lead going into the second half.

It was more of the same in the second half as junior Kali Borden found space on the right side of the Bears penalty box to start the second half. Borden ripped a shot to the opposite post but Scofield dove to her right to make another diving save and keep the score 2-0.

Sophomore Lizzie Miller was next for Coast Guard as she took a rip from 30 yards out that looked headed for goal. Scofielf used every last inch of real estate to leap up, push the shot off the crossbar and collect the rebound to once again end the attack and keep the Bears scoreless in the second.

Coast Guard finally broke through in the second half in the 75th minute as Conner sent a cross to the center of the box from the right side. Hernandez got her head to the cross and lifted it over Scofield for the final goal of the game, giving the Bears the 3-0 victory.

Junior goalkeeper Rachel Boohar (9-8) registered her sixth shutout of the season making zero saves on zero shots on goal. Boohar's 10th career shutout moves her in a tie for third all-time with Mary Mills and she now has the most wins by a goalie in a single season in program history.

Scofield (5-8-1) made seven saves on the 10 shots on goal allowing the three scores.

Coast Guard wraps up their regular season on Saturday against the Wheaton Lyons in NEWMAC action. With a win the Bears will qualify for the conference tournament for the first time since 2014. Opening kickoff is 2:30.
