NEW LONDON, Conn.-- Juniors Claire Hurley and Lizzie Miller have been named to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer All-Conference teams. Both earn the accolade for the first time in their careers.
Hurley has been named to the NEWMAC All-Conference First Team after posting a record-breaking season. Leading the team in goals with 11, the junior forward broke the school record for points in a season during a historic NEWMAC Quarterfinal when she scored the game-winner in the 1-0 victory over WPI to set the new record of 31 points in a single season. Hurley is the 2nd in the NEWMAC with her 31 points. She also is tied for second for assists in the NEWMAC with 9. Finally, she is fourth in the NEWMAC with 11 goals on the year.
Miller earns a spot on the NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team. The junior defender played a vital part in the team's success during their historic season. Miller had three points on the year, with a goal and an assist. Miller and the rest of the Bear's defense, shut down opponents to hold a 1.37 goals against average with seven shutouts on the season.
Coast Guard women's soccer hosted their first ever NEWMAC Quarterfinal and went on to the program's first semifinal game on the road at MIT. The Bear's dropped a 1-0 setback in the semifinal but they finished the season making history with a record of 11-7-1 overall and 6-3-1 in conference play. The 11 wins mark the most wins in a single season in Coast Guard women's soccer history.
