MADISON, NJ -- Alina Augustin scored the game-winning goal in the 97th minute of overtime for Bard, as they defeated Coast Guard 3-2 on Saturday afternoon. The Bears drop to 0-3 while Bard improves to 2-2.
In her first game back as a field player, senior Claire Hurley scored in the 88th minute to tie the game and force the overtime.
Freshman Anna Carleton put the Bears on the board first with her first goal of the season in the 43rd minute after collecting her own rebound and chipping past Bard's junior goalkeeper Abigail Stanley giving the Bears a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Senior Sarah George answered for Bard in the 49th minute to tie the game 1-1. Augustin scored her first goal of the game in the 80th minute as she tipped in a cross to give the Raptors a 2-1 advantage.
Hurley forced overtime with her first goal of the season, coming off of a scramble with under two minutes left in regulation.
Augustin received a pass from Kehela Ventura, dribbling it in on a breakaway to score the overtime winner for Bard.
The Bears outshot Bard 24-7 and held a 10-2 advantage on corner kicks.
Coast Guard freshman goalkeeper Sarah Schollenberger made two saves in the loss. Stanley recorded eight saves for the Raptors for her second win of the season.
The Bears are back in action tomorrow for the second day of the Bard tournament when they take on #14 Swarthmore at 12:00 PM.
