NEW LONDON, Conn. – Coast Guard placed a program best six cadet-athletes on the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Soccer Academic All-conference team.
Coast Guard placed five cadet-athletes on the team last year for the second time as they also did that in 2016.
Senior Valerie Hines, a Marine and Environmental Sciences major, was named to the Academic All-conference team for the third straight season.
Senior Claire Hurley (Government) and juniors Felicia Lombardi (Government) and Kat Retz (Operations Research and Computer Analysis) were named to the All-Academic team for the second straight season.
Senior Lizzie Miller (Operations Research and Computer Analysis) earned All-Academic honors for the first time along with sophomore Kate Barnett (Marine and Environmental Sciences), in her first year eligible for the honor.
Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2019 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference consists of 11 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Emerson College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
