Bears Place 4th at NEWMAC's

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(2/19/12)--Coast Guard placed fourth at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships.

MIT won with 960 points, Springfield was second (821.5), Wellesley was third with 430 points while the Bears finished with 353.5 points.

Sophomore Chantel Ferguson and senior Heidi Gayman each earned All-conference honors with top two finishes in the championship.

Ferguson placed second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:37.60 and broke the school record in the 200 IM with a time a time of 2:09.27 to place third. She also broke the school record with a time an NCAA B time of 4:36.37 in the preliminaries of the 400 IM.

Gayman placed second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:54.42.

Also for the Bears, freshman Sara Cantrell shattered both 11 dive school records posting a 0ne-meter score of 381.35, and a three meter score of 402.05.
