McWilliams Lifts Bears to First Win of the Season

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Three first place finishes from freshman Haley McWilliams led the Bears to their first win of the season over Wheaton College this afternoon. McWilliams finished the 1000 yard freestyle in 10:56.50, the 500 yard freestyle in 5:22.66, and the 200 yard butterfly in 2:18.25 to pace Coast Guard to a 175 – 105 victory.

Freshman Ashley Ezell and senior Elizabeth Kenis finished behind McWilliams in the 200 butterfly to complete the sweep for the Bears. Ezell finished at 2:30.05 while Kenis came in at 2:32.47.

Ezell was also part of the first place finishing 400 yard medley relay team. Ezell teamed up with sophomores Carolyn Slife, Darlene Sao, and senior Terri Jozsa who finished in a combined 4:14.40.

Jozsa added two more first place finishes for the Bears. Jozsa finished in the top spot in the 100 yard and 200 yard breaststroke finishing in 1:12.19 and 2:34.42, respectively.

Slife took home the 200 yard backstroke, finishing in 2:21.24, and came in second in the 100 yard backstroke at 1:05.70 while Sao won the 200 yard individual medley finishing in 2:17.26.

Sao also added a second place finish in the 50 yard freestyle behind freshman Patricia Eidenhire. Eidenhire won the race in 25.91 while Sao was just behind her at 26.14.

Eidenhire was also part of the top placing 400 yard freestyle relay team. Freshman Carly Campbell, senior Erin Talbot, Eidenhire and junior Chantel Ferguson finished in a combined 3:51.07 for the win.

Ferguson also added two more wins on the day, taking first in the 200 yard freestyle and 100 yard butterfly. Ferguson finished the 200 free in 2:02.84 and the 100 butterfly in 1:01.62. Ezell came in behind Ferguson at 1:3.62 for a second place finish.

Coast Guard will travel to Providence College Friday, November 16th at 5:00p take swim against the Friars and WPI.
