Women’s Swimming and Diving Falls Twice at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.-Senior Chantel Ferguson took home a third place finish in the individual medley but the Coast Guard women's swimming and diving team dropped a pair of decisions to Springfield and Rhode Island, respectively, on Saturday afternoon. Coast Guard fell by scores of 238-58 to Springfield and 235-52 to Rhode Island.

 

Ferguson finished the 400 individual medley in a time of 4:55.68. Ferguson also took home a fourth place finish in the 200 butterfly, finishing in a time of 2:20.79.

 

Other top finishers for Coast Guard were junior Darlene Sao and freshman Carlie Gilligan. Sao was the fourth place finisher in the 100 freestyle with a time of 56.23 while Gilligan earned a fourth place finish with a time of 2:33.79 in the 200 backstroke.

 

The top-finishing relay team for the Bears was in the 200 freestyle, placing fifth with a time of 1:44.47. The team consisted of Sao, sophomore Carly Campbell and Patti Eidenire, and freshman Rachel Seaman.

Junior Sara Cantrell was the top finisher in the diving events with a finals score of 188.50 which was good enough for fifth place.

Coast Guard returns to action on Saturday, November 9th against Wheaton at 12:00 pm.
