Women’s Swimming and Diving Grabs First Win at Wheaton

NEWTON, Mass.-Senior Chantel Ferguson won three individual events to lead the Coast Guard women's swimming and diving team to a 156-131 victory over Wheaton on Saturday. With the victory the Bears improve to 1-2 on the season while Wheaton drops to 1-1 in the early going.

Ferguson took home individual titles in both the 200 and 500 freestyles with times of 2:02.96 and 5:32.01, respectively. She also earned a victory in the 200 IM, completing the event with a time 2:16.64. Additionally she was part of the second place 400 medley relay team along with junior Darlene Sao, freshman Carlie Gilligan, and sophomore Patti Eidenire finishing with a time of 4:13.15.

The 400 freestyle relay team of freshman Rachel Seaman, junior Kelsey Gray, sophomore Carly Campbell, and Eidenire also recorded a second place finish with a time of 3:52.52.

Gilligan was also a multi-event winner for the Bears. She took home victories in both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes with times of 1:12.07 and 2:33.82, respectively.

In the diving portion of the afternoon, junior Sara Cantrell recorded a pair of first place finishes. She won the 3-meter dive with a finals score of 229.80 before winning the 1-meter dive with an NCAA qualifying score of 267.07.

Sao and freshman Kaitlyn Toth each recorded victories for the Bears as well. Sao won the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:03.71 while Toth was first across the line in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:21.93.

Coast Guard returns to action on Saturday, November 16th when they travel to Providence to take on Providence and WPI at 11:00 am.
