WORCESTER, Mass.-Senior Chantel Ferguson won an individual event and was the third leg on a pair of relay teams that finished second and third, respectively, to lead the Coast Guard women's swimming and diving team at the preliminaries of the Gompei Invitational hosted by WPI on Saturday.
Ferguson raced to a first place finish in the 100 butterfly, finishing in a time of 59.14 seconds. She was also a member of the second place 200 freestyle relay team along with freshman Rachel Seaman, sophomore Patti Eidenire, and senior Darlene Sao, finishing in 1:41.87.
Sao put up an impressive second place finish in the 200 IM, clocking in at 2:14.40. Sao led off the third-place finishing 400 medley relay team that finished in 4:12.46. She was joined in that foursome by junior Kelsey Gray and the aforementioned Ferguson and Eidenire.
Eidenire collected the fifth, and final, top-five finish on the day for the Lady Bears, coming fourth in the 50 freestyle in a time of 25.46 seconds.
Coast Guard returns to action tomorrow when they complete the Gompei Invitational at WPI before heading off for Winter Break. When they return from break they will travel to Wellesley to compete in a tri-meet with the host's and Babson.
