The Bears, who placed seventh at the NEWMAC last season will be led by a great senior class featuring several athletes that will be counted for outstanding seasons.

Senior captains Darlene Sao, one of the most versatile swimmers the Bears have had in years, along with diver Sarah Cantrell will lead the senior class while Kelsey Gray, who is vastly improved from last season, will be a solid breaststroke performer along with Caitlin Geever (back/free) and Carolyn Slife (backstroke), who returns from an injury which caused her to miss all of last season and is the leadoff leg of the school-record holding 200 medley relay team.

Sao  placed third in the 100 freestyle (52.88) and fifth in the 200 IM (2:10.38) at the NEWMAC Championships last season. She was also part of four relays with two sixth place finishes and a pair of seventh place finishes last season. In 2013, she placed fifth in the 200 IM at the NEWMAC Championships with a time of 2:10.33.

Cantrell made her first appearance at the NCAA Division III Championship as a sophomore in 2013 and placed 17th on the 1-meter board and 22nd on the 3-meter board. She earned a spot at the NCAA Championships by placing sixth at the NCAA Division III Diving regional that season. Last year at the NEWMAC Championships, she placed fifth on the 3-meter (451.35) and sixth on the 1-meter (405.40). Sara broke all four diving school-records in 2013: 1-meter (6 dive) 249; 1-meter (11 dive), 423.25; 3-meter (6 dive) 280.55 and 3-meter dive (11 dives) 453.75.

Kaitlyn Toth, the Bears top butterfly performer  is the leader of the sophomore class while Coast Guard has a very good young group of sprinters led by sophomore newcomer Rebekah Muller along with a talented freshmen class led by Madison Heist (distance), Ainsley Fruhwirth (breaststroke/IM) and twin sisters Victoria and Patricia Talens. Victoria is a talented sprinter while Patricia will contribute in the back, sprint and IM.

Coast Guard opens the season on Saturday at the University of Rhode Island against the host Rams and Springfield College at 1 p.m.
