CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Junior Kristen Young earned All-conference honors with a second place finish in the 100 freestyle as the Bears placed fifth of ten teams at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic (NEWMAC) Championship.
MIT won for the eighth straight season as the Engineers finished with 1,314 points. Wheaton was second with 1,002 points followed by Springfield (795.5), WPI (721) ahead of the fifth place Bears, who had 575.5 total points. Coast Guard finished sixth last season.
Young posted a time of 52.19 in the 100 freestyle to place second, the highest Coast Guard finisher on the fourth and final day of the championship. She was third in the 200 freestyle on Saturday night.
The Bears 400 freestyle relay team of freshman Sarah Passilla, Young, freshman Hannah Fernandes and freshman Emily Benson took third place with a time of 3:32.40.
Also for the Bears on Sunday, Benson was fifth in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 17:21.94.
