Women's Swimming Wins Season Opener

NEW LONDON, Conn. –  Coast Guard won all 13 events in its season opening 147-49 win over Colby Sawyer.

Kristen Durham-Young won both the 100 freestyle (54.06) and the 200 freestyle (1:57.99) while Elena Calese won the 1-meter diving (148.56) and the 3-meter (183.00) to lead the Bears.

The Bears 400 medley relay team of Sophia Furigay, Kayla Apostolico, Celia Marzinsky and Hannah Fernandes won in 4:16.17 while the 200 freestyle relay team of Fernandes, Sarah Passilla, Furigay and Durham-Young won with a time of 1:42.21.

Also for Coast Guard, Brigit Jogan won the 1,000 freestyle (11:33.70), Fernandes won the 50 freestyle (26.26), Josie McGuire won the 400 IM (4:48.22), Ashley Fuller won the 100 butterfly (1:01.93), Passilla won the 100 backstroke (1:01.50), Emily Benson won the 500 freestyle (5:27.36) and Apostolico won the 100 breaststroke (1:14.53).

Coast Guard is back in action on Oct. 27th in a tri-meet with Springfield at the University of Rhode Island at 12:30.
