Bears Beat Springfield for First Time in Program History

KINGSTON, R.I. –  Freshman Josie McGuire won the 500 and 1,000 freestyle as Coast Guard beat Springfield for the first time in school history 156-138 while losing to host Division I University of Rhode Island 197-100.

McGuire won the 500 freestyle (5:15.74) and the 1,000 freestyle (10:44.70), senior Kristen Durham-Young won the 50 freestyle (25.18) and freshman Sophie Furigay won the 200 backstroke (2:08.85) for the Bears.

Durham-Young was second in the 200 freestyle (1:57.86), Furigay was second in the 100 backstroke (1:01.15) and senior Celia Marzinsky was second in the 200 butterfly (2:12.53)

The Bears 200 freestyle relay of Furigay, sophomore Hannah Fernandes, McGuire and sophomore Emily Benson were second with a time of 1:43.18.

Coast Guard is now 2-1 on the season and the Bears are back in action on Friday night when the Bears host Wheaton at 6:00.
