Bears Defeat Merchant Marine

New London, Conn.-- Coast Guard women's swimming and diving defeated Merchant Marine Academy, 213-85 on Saturday afternoon in Roland Pool. The Bears set a new Roland Pool record in the victory.

The 200 Medley Relay team of Sophia Furigay, Sarah Passilla, Emily Benson, and Kristen Durham-Young set a Roland Pool record with their first place finish at 1:52.93.

The Bears had 12, first place finishes in the victory over Merchant Marine. Josie McGuire had two top finishes as she completed the 1000 Free at 10:37.50 and had a time of 5:17.46 in the 500 Free.

Benson had a top finish in the 200 Free at 1:57.50. Furigay had two, first place finishes with time of 1:00.37 in the 100 Back and a 2:08.77 time in the 200 Back. Ashley Fuller finished on top in the 200 Fly at 2:12.89.

Durham-Young added two more first place finishes in the 50 Free and the 100 Fly. She finished the 50 Free at 24.76 and the 100 Fly at 59.28.

Passilla also had two, top finishes in the 100 Free and the 200 IM. She finished the 100 Free at 54.84 and the 200 IM at 2:14.94.

The 200 Free Relay team of McGuire, Furigay, Benson, and Durham-Young, ended the day with a first place finish at 1:40.26.

The diving action, Jacqueline Maher had a second place finish in the 1M with a score of 157.57. Elena Calese had a second place finish in the 3M with a score of 155.85.

Coast Guard returns to the pool on Saturday, January 26 at 1:00 PM when they travel to Clark University.
