CGA Will Send Quartet of Women to NCAA Championship

NEW LONDON, Conn. --  Coast Guard will send a record 11 swimmers to the NCAA Division III Championships as seven men and four women will represent the Academy in Greensboro, N.C. on March 20-23.

Last year the Bears sent 10 swimmers, six men and four women to the NCAA Division III Championships.

Sophomore Sarah Passilla earned a spot in the 200 IM (2:05.74) posting the 18th fastest time and will also swim the 400 IM and the 100 freestyle. She is the first Coast Guard female invited since All-American Kim Shadwick went in 2011. Passilla won the 200 IM NEWMAC championship this season.

The 800 freestyle relay of Passilla, senior Kristen Durham-Young, sophomore Emily Benson and freshman Josie McGuire earned and invite with the 8th fastest time in Division III this season (7:31.09). That relay also won the NEWMAC championship.

Durham-Young will also swim the 200 freestyle, an event she won the NEWMAC championship in this season, while McGuire will swim in the 1,650 freestyle as both qualified with NCAA B cut times in those events.
