Gollin, Bishop Lead Bears

MEDFORD, MASS.--(2/4/12)--Freshman Beth Gollin won the mile run leading Coast Guard to an eighth place finish at the Tufts Invitational.

The Bears placed eighth of the 19 teams finishing with 33 points. Host Tufts won easily with 199 points while Worcester State was second with 92 points.

Gollin won the mile run with a time of 5:16.96.

Sophomore Abby Bishop placed fourth and broke the school record in the pentathlon with 2,791 points, her previous record was 2,706 set at the Indoor DIII New England Championships last year at MIT. Her top marks in the competition were in the 60 hurdles and the 800 meters. Her hurdles time of 10.06 was the fifth overall mark in the competition and her 800 meters time of 2:32.49 was the third fastest time in the field of 14 competitors. Bishop also cleared 1.42 in the high jump, leapt 4.61 meters in the long jump and threw the shot put 8.59 meters.

A trio of sophomores had solid performances as Hannah Seeland was fourth in the weight throw (44 feet, 9.5 inches), Emily Trudeau was fifth in the shot put with a toss of 37 feet, 2.25 inches and Meghan Kalinowski was sixth in the 3,000 meters (10:59.40).
