NEW LONDON, Conn.-Sophomore Beth Gollin and freshman Monet Masters won their respective events to lead the Coast Guard women's track and field team to a third place finish out of 12 teams competing at the 2013 edition of the Coast Guard Invitational. The Bears recorded 90.33 points on the day, being edged out only by WPI and Wesleyan, with 108 and 102 points, respectively.
In the 3000 steeplechase, Gollin posted a time of 11:33.88 to edge of the field of nine competitors by over 20 seconds.
The Bears duo of Masters and freshman Casey Fall finished 1-2 in the pole vault with matching heights of 9 feet 6.25 inches.
Coast Guard also recorded a pair of third place finished at the meet. Freshman Katie Nielson placed third in the shot put with a distance of 38 feet and 1.5 inches while junior Hannah Seeland threw for 116 feet in the discus.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, April 6th at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
