SPRINGFIELD, Mass.-Sophomore Kyle Sutschek and junior Hannah Seeland each recorded victories in events as the Coast Guard women's track and field team placed third at the Springfield College Invitational. Springfield, recording 155 points, was the overall winner on the day as they narrowly edged WPI (151 points), with the Bears compiling 83 points on the day.
Sutschek won the discus with a toss of 127 feet, while also placing third in the shot put with a throw of 33 feet, 5 ¾ inches. Seeland recorded a best throw of 35 feet, 2 ½ inches, narrowly edging out freshman Katie Nielson's 35 foot, 0 ¼ inch effort in the shot put as Coast Guard swept the top three spots in that event.
Freshmen Rachel Hill (800 meter; 2:23.62) and Monet Masters (Pole Vault; 10 feet, 6 inches), sophomore Beth Gollin (1500 meter; 4:52.42), and Seeland (Discus; 115 feet, 1 inch) all recorded second place finishes on the day for the Bears.
Freshmen Madison Ahlers (400 meter; 1:02.34) and Casey Fall (Pole Vault; 10 feet) joined junior Abigail Bishop (200 meter; 26.83) in gaining third place finishes. The Coast Guard 4x400 relay team also picked up a third place finish in a time of 4:15.43.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, April 20th when they compete in the Slifen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College.
