NEW LONDON, Conn-Sophomore Beth Gollin took the top spot in the 3000 meter steeplechase winning the event with a time of 11:20.11 for the Coast Guard women's track and field team at the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College today.
Freshman Rachel Hill was 4th in the 800 meters running 2:22.38 qualifying for the Division III New England meet.
In the pole vault, freshman Monet Masters soared over 10'6" to place first. Teammates, senior Maddie Ede and freshman Taylor Peace, took 4th and 5th place, respectively, to pick up points for the Bears.
Junior Hannah Seeland won the shot put throwing 36'2.75" and also placed second in the hammer throw with a best mark of 134' 10".
Freshman Katie Nielsen took the runner up position in the shot put throwing 35'11.25" while sophomore Kyle Sutschek took the first place position with a best throw of 121'10 in the discus. Sutschek also took 4th in the hammer throw.
Junior Jamie Waterman was the 3rd place finisher in the discus (104'2).
Coast Guard was 3rd scoring 100 points, with Conn College in 2nd (103.5) and Rhode Island College in first with 124.
The team returns to the oval on Saturday, April 27th when they travel to Springfield College for the NEWMAC Championships.
