NEW LONDON, Conn. – Junior Beth Gollin won both the 1,000 meters and mile to lead the Bears to victory in the season-opening Coast Guard Winter Invitational.
Gollin had winning times of 3:12.81 in the 1,000 meters and 5:25.11 in the mile.
Coast Guard won with 162.33 points while Westfield State was second with 129.66 points, Trinity was third (108), RIC (74) was fourth and Eastern Connecticut was fifth with 53 points.
Freshman Jennifer Haley won the 600 meters with a time of 1:46.55 in her collegiate debut. Senior Hannah Seeland won the weight throw with a toss of 48 feet, 3.25 inches.
Freshman Bonny Turanage placed second in the 1,000 meters (3:15.19), senior Kristin Euchler finished second in the mile (5:37.59), senior Andrea Barrameda was second in the 800 meters (2:36.22).
Senior Abby Bishop finished second in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.73 while senior Meghan Kalinowski was second in the 3,000 meters (11:21.40). Sophomore Katie Nielsen was second in the shot put (38-3.5).
Sophomore Madison Ahlers placed third in the 400 meters with a time of 1:04.21, freshman Chloe Benoist was third in the 800 meters (2:36.25), junior Kendall Auth took third in the 3,000 meters (11:22.09). Sophomore Monet Masters placed third in the pole vault (10-6) while Bishop was third in the long jump (15-7.5) and senior Emily Trudeau was third in the shot put (37-1).
Coast Guard's 4x800 relay team of Euchler, Benoist, Turnage and Barrameda won with a time of 10:35.31.
