SPRINGFIELD, Mass.-The Coast Guard women's track team nabbed six top-ten finishes on their way to accumulating 17 points and six All-New England selections at the 2014 New England Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship hosted by Springfield College.
The 17 points by the Bears were good enough for a 14th place finish. Williams won the team championships with 150 points, followed by MIT and Tufts with 119 and 94 points, finishing in second and third, respectively.
The top finishing quartet for Coast Guard was the distance medley team, earning a fifth place finish in 12:33.99. The team consisted of freshman Bonny Turnage, sophomore Madison Ahlers, senior Kristin Euchler, and junior Beth Gollin.
The top individual finisher for Coast Guard was senior Emily Trudeau whose toss of 40 feet, 6.25 inches in the shot put was good enough for sixth place. She edged sophomore teammate Katie Nielson in the event, who claimed an eighth place finish with a throw of 38 feet, 11.75 inches.
The Bears got a seventh place finish from Gollin in the 3000 meter run, finishing in 10:30.03 in addition to an eighth place finish from senior Hannah Seeland in the weight throw who had a best throw of 47 feet, 4.5 inches. The Coast Guard 4x800 relay team, comprised of freshmen Jennifer Haley, Chloe Benoist, Turnage, Gretchen Krause, and Andrea Barrameda finished eighth with a time of 9:52.98.
Any competitor or relay team finishing in the top eight earned All-New England honors.
Coast Guard returns to action on Friday, February 28th and Saturday, March 1st when they compete at the All-New England Championships hosted by Boston University.
