Track Wraps Up New England Open

WESTFIELD, Mass.-The Coast Guard 4x800 meter relay team set a school record to lead the men's track and field team on the second and final day of the 2014 New England Championships.

The 4x800 meter relay team consisting of junior James Martin, freshman Andrew Scheffey, senior Brad Pienta, and sophomore Ben Chapman ran a time of 7:44.13.

Senior Adam Scalesse won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.243 seconds, just 0.007 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. He also placed seventh in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 54.23 seconds Classmate Ben Wolhaupter was eighth in the pole vault with a best jump of 15 feet, 5 inches.

On the women's side, junior Beth Gollin was the top finisher for the Bears, placing ninth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:06.64. Senior Kyle Sutschek placed 12th in the discus with a best throw of 123 feet, 3 inches.

Both teams will be back in action on Thursday, May 15th when they take part in the 2014 ECAC Championships, hosted by RPI.
