NEW LONDON, Conn. - Freshman Kaitlyn Mooney broke the school record in the 5K, as Coast Guard competed at day one of the Silfen Invitational hosted by Conn. College.
Mooney crossed the line in 16:53.70 for second place finishing behind senior Brittany Bowman of Tufts. Her time breaks the school record of 17:21.28, set by Gretchen Krause in 1994. Mooney moves into the top 10 in the event in Division III.
Other top finishers on the day were senior Rachel Burchill (39:06.12) and freshman Emma Sims (39:34.59) taking second and third in the 10K, sophomore Olivia Suski taking ninth in the 3K steeplechase (11:53.84) and sophomore Adora Lawrence taking ninth in the 800 (2:20.03.
The Bears are back in action tomorrow, April 14th, when they head back to Conn. College for day two of the Silfen Invitational.
