Bears Earn Top Finish at Division III New England Championship

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Coast Guard earned their best finish in program history at the final day of the Division III New England Championship hosted by MIT.

The Bears finished in third place with 60 points. Host MIT won the meet with 161 points while Williams was second with 69 points.

Freshman Kaitlyn Mooney was Coast Guard's top finisher, taking home first place in the 5K (17:11.75). Mooney took the top spot by 20 seconds.

The Bears 4x800 of freshman Maeve Roach, sophomore Olivia Suski, Mooney and senior Ashlee Johnson ran a school record time 9:31.13 for third place.

The 4x400 of junior Caroline Jenkins, sophomores Anna Beck, Madeline Colwell and Adora Lawrence also took third place, running the second fastest time in school history (3:59.11).

Also earning All-New England Honors on the track was Lawrence and Beck in the 400. Lawrence was fourth ( 58.09) and Beck was fifth (58.47).

In the throwing events, senior Gabbie Troise set another school record taking third in the hammer with a throw of 165-.5. She was also fifth in the shot with a distance of 39-7.75.

The Bears final All-New England finisher of the day was sophomore Hollis Roush taking fifth in the heptathlon with 3862 points.

Coast Guard is back in action next weekend at the All-New England Championship hosted by Dartmouth.
