Bears Defeat Merchant Marine

KINGS POINT, N.Y.-- Coast Guard women's track and field defeated Merchant Marine Academy, 112- 47 on Wednesday afternoon. The Bears finished in first place in 15 out of 17 events.

Leilani Salang finished first overall in three events; the hammer throw, shot put, and discus. The hammer throw was 137'2" (41.82m), the shot put, 35'9" (10.94m), and the discus, 135'4" (41.26m).

The 4x100 relay team of Kristina Bynum, Alexys Percival, Nyjah Turner, and Anna Beck finished in 51.77. Mia Huncharek took first in the 1500 with a time of 5:06.04.

In the 100 hurdles, Caroline Jenkins finished in 16.33 and the 400 hurdles at 1:09.09. Beck finished the 100m first overall with a time of 12.93 and the 200m at 26.37.

Olivia Suski finished the 800m at 2:30.13.

Kaitlyn Mooney took first in the 5000m with a time of 18:09.04.

The 4x400 team of Hannah Jamison, Mia Huncharek, Nina Ragle, and Suski finished first in 4:15.92.

Samantha Bolin took first in the javelin at 99'4" (30.28m).

Bynum was first overall in the long jump at 16'2" (4.93m) and Mary Sims was 32'2" (9.80m) in her first place finish in the triple jump.

The Bears are back in action this Saturday, April 6 at home for the Coast Guard Invitational.
