Bears Place Trio on All-Conference team

NEW LONDON, Conn.--(11/7/11)--Coast Guard Academy placed a trio of players on the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-conference team.

Sophomore Kelsey DePorto earned first team honors while juniors Keriann Mason and Karen Matic were named to the second team.

DePorto, the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year last season, led the Bears with 292 kills and 101 blocks to go with 29 aces while hitting 33.3 percent this season. She earns first team All-conference honors for the second straight season.

Mason, who missed a majority of last season with an injury after earning first team All-conference honors in 2009, was second on the team with 277 kills and 334 digs.


Matic, a first team selection last season, led the team with 850 assists to go with her 227 digs.

Coast Guard shared the regular season NEWMAC championship with Springfield and the Bears will be the top seed in the ECAC New England Division III tournament which begins on Wednesday

The Bears, who were 8-1 in conference play, are 23-6 overall.

Coast Guard will be the top-seed in the ECAC Division III New England tournament and host #8 Framingham State on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in a first round game.
