HOBOKEN, N.J.—Coast Guard, for the second time in as many days, split a pair of matches at the Ducks Invitational at The Stevens Institute of Technology as junior Samantha Marmolejo earned a spot on the All-tournament team.
Coast Guard began the day with a 3-0 win over Elmira winning by game scores of 25-19, 25-22 and 22-17 before winning the first two sets before eventual tournament champion Richard Stockton won the final three sets for the win. Coast Guard won 25-16 and 26-24 before losing 25-21, 25-23 and 15-10.
In the opening match of the day, the win over Elmira, senior Catherine Walker led the way with seven kills to go with ten digs. Marmolejo led the Bears with 22 digs while senior Karen Matic had a team-high 23 assists.
In the five-set thriller vs. Richard Stockton, junior Kelsey DePorto had 18 kills, hitting .667 while Walker added 17 kills and ten digs while senior Keriann Mason finished with 14 kills.
Marmolejo again led the way with 21 digs while Matic had 11 digs and team-high 55 assists.
The Bears are now 10-8 overall and host Clark in a NEWMAC match on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
